PayPal USD (PYUSD) is a fiat-backed stablecoin issued by Paxos Trust Company in partnership with PayPal, launched in 2023. PYUSD operates on Ethereum and Solana and is positioned primarily as a payments and remittance instrument inside the PayPal/Venmo ecosystem.
Reserves and disclosure
PYUSD is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services (NYDFS) through Paxos as the issuer. Reserves consist of US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries, and similar cash equivalents. Paxos publishes monthly attestation reports. PYUSD is one of the most explicitly US-regulated stablecoins on the market.
Adoption pattern
PYUSD adoption has grown unevenly, with notable on-chain incentives driving Solana usage. Inside the PayPal/Venmo product surface, usage remains modest relative to the broader stablecoin market. Most PYUSD discussion centres on payments use cases, partnerships, and PayPal’s broader crypto strategy rather than peg health.
Peg history
PYUSD has held its peg tightly since launch with no significant deviation events. Most peg discussion is about flow imbalances during specific incentive campaigns rather than solvency.
How to use the confidence chart
A confidence reading above 80 is the norm. PYUSD’s smaller circulating supply means single-day chatter spikes can move the score without corresponding peg movement. Cross-check the peg chart before treating sentiment dips as risk signals. Research only โ not a solvency rating.
