Sentiment Velocity is the delta between current sentiment and the 7-day rolling baseline. It captures direction of change, not absolute tonality.
How to read it
- +20 or more — sentiment is improving sharply. Often precedes mood-score upgrades.
- +5 to +20 — gradual upgrade in tone; bulls returning to the conversation.
- −5 to +5 — sideways. The asset’s discussion is steady-state.
- −5 to −20 — gradual erosion. Bears are gaining share.
- −20 or worse — sharp sentiment reversal. Worth investigating immediately.
When it’s most useful
Velocity catches turns earlier than raw sentiment. An asset that’s been sitting at +15 sentiment for a week may already be losing the room if velocity has dropped to −10; the absolute reading is fine but the trajectory is breaking.
Common misreadings
Velocity is noisy on illiquid assets where a single viral post can spike the rolling average. Always sanity-check against social volume — large moves with very low volume are not signal.
