Where it comes from
LunarCrush ingests posts from X (Twitter), Reddit, YouTube, and a number of crypto-focused forums. Posts are de-duplicated and tagged by asset before being aggregated into volume.
How to read it
Absolute volume matters less than relative volume. Bitcoin generating 50,000 posts a day is normal; a tier-3 long-tail coin doing 50,000 posts a day is extraordinary. That’s why social velocity — the ratio of current volume to baseline — is usually more useful for spotting opportunity.
Common misreadings
High social volume does not mean an asset is "popular" in a positive sense. A depeg event, a hack, a regulatory probe, or an exchange delisting all generate massive volume. Always pair volume with sentiment before drawing conclusions.
