Acceleration Score

The second derivative of narrative heat — the rate of change of momentum itself.

Range
−5 to +5 typical, unbounded in theory
Formula summary
change in momentum_score over the last 24 hours

Acceleration Score is the narrative-level early-warning indicator. Where heat tells you altitude and momentum tells you direction, acceleration tells you whether the trend is itself speeding up or slowing down.

How to read it

  • Above +1.5 — narrative is gaining momentum sharply. Often the earliest visible sign of a regime change.
  • +0.3 to +1.5 — building momentum. Worth watching.
  • −0.3 to +0.3 — steady. The momentum trend is stable.
  • −0.3 to −1.5 — losing momentum. Even if heat is still high, the trend is fading.
  • Below −1.5 — sharp deceleration. Often precedes a heat drawdown.

Why it matters

Acceleration is the closest thing MarketMoodIQ has to a forward indicator. By the time heat moves visibly, the inflection is already underway. By the time momentum changes, the trend is established. Acceleration is what changes before momentum does.

Common misreadings

Because it’s a second derivative, acceleration is noisy. A single 4h burst can flip its sign. Always confirm by checking whether momentum follows within a day or two. Don’t alert on acceleration alone — pair it with sentiment context and asset-level breadth before acting.
